Search Engine Optimization, or commonly abbreviated to SEO, is an essential aspect of website design and development. Once you build your amazing new website, you definitely want people to be able to find it in an online search.
Some key areas of improving your SEO include: adding a site map to your website, creating a keyword and key phrases list for each page, editing content or text to reflect the page keywords, and adding descriptive words to media such as images.
However, this is not the be all and end all of improving your SEO. You also need to put a major emphasis on where it is searched. There are a few larger search engines in operation, but we are going to discuss the most important ones. These are where you will generate most of your views from, and most probably generate more clientele if that is your goal.
Google is, to date, the largest of all the search engines. It is estimated that almost 70% of searches originate from Google. Therefore, if you want to succeed at improving your SEO and being found, it is in your best interest to make Google your first priority.
Another thing to note is that as of this past year 2016, over 50% of all online searches were made from mobile devices. So, Google has now made mobile-friendly websites higher priority, which will now rank higher than websites that are not mobile-friendly. If you want to be found on Google, you should work at making your website mobile friendly, or design it that way from the start if you are still looking to develop.
The next largest search engine is Bing with an estimated 25% of searches occurring there. This is Microsoft’s newest search engine, but as of 2009, it also powers Yahoo!. So any searches on Yahoo will improve your Bing SEO.
CryoDragon was hired to boost the SEO of a client of ours, after someone else built their website. They were not ranking very high except locally. Since most of their business was across Ontario and Quebec, they needed to find a way to get found. We completed an audit on their site and proposed a two-phased method of improvement. After a month, they went from non-existent, or past page 10 on Google, to being in the first two pages. After the second phase of the project, they were all on page one of Google for all the keywords they wanted.
A year later, they came back to us and wanted to expand their SEO throughout Canada and the US, and wanted many more keywords. Within the first month they immediately showed improvement and once again went from non-existent to being on page 1 and 2 for almost all of the new edited locations and keywords.
If you are looking for a mobile-friendly and responsive web designer or developer, consider contacting CryoDragon for your next project. Or if you already have a website and are looking to improve your SEO rankings, we offer those services as well, starting with an audit and a detailed report and plan to help you get to where you want to be!
