Web design is considered an art, and everyone has different opinions in this topic. I may look at a particular website and think it’s creative, while you may look at it and think it’s too cluttered; or vice versa. So, how do you know what kind of web design you want? The notion is simple, but difficult to execute. What all website designs should end up doing is cater to your client.
When you get a new website, you’re going to hire a web designer who will essentially do as you ask them to. They’ll design a website and tweak it around until you’ve been provided with a website you deem worthy for your business. However, as we mentioned before…a website that looks great to you may not necessary look great to others. We’re not saying you don’t have a penchant for the arts, but due to the fact that everyone appreciates art and graphics differently, it’s crucial that you step out of your own shoes and into your client’s, so that you can judge what’s best for them, and not you.
Let’s say you own an online store, and due to a personal preference, you want to alphabetize all of your products on a single page for your clients to view. Although alphabetizing your products might be helpful to you, it might not be helpful to your potential clients…they may want them categorized under different groups, or be able to filter and search for the products they’re looking for. A web designer should be providing you with suggestions that could help improve the functionality and ease-of-use of the website, yet the final decision always comes down to you, and what you think is best for you and your client.
So, when you’re working with a web designer on your new website, think about what your clients want, and how you can make things easier for them with regards to website navigation and user-friendliness.
Take a look at this comic for a worst-case scenario! A friend of ours sent it to us, and we thought we’d share it with everyone!

Yeah I had a client who turned what I thought was an excellent site into crap. Great comic. Most clients trust their web designer luckily.
