Ever since we started our website design business, CryoDragon has noticed some concerning issues that have plagued a number of our clients. Specifically, we are a bit concerned with how companies in this field treat their customers with respect to estimated quotes as well as website support after delivery. We have also realized that consumer education is key to a happy customer, and without that, both parties are prone to being completely unsatisfied or fed up with one another.
Within the past few months, we have accepted a number of clients that were either abandoned by their previous website designers or were forced to switch website designers because outrageous amounts of money were requested to make changes to their current site.
One of them came to us because nobody else would respond, and the two who did respond wanted upwards of $10,000 for their website with no breakdown of hours or web design proposal. To his surprise, we gave him an honest quote and built him a premium site that had exactly what he needed and wanted, while saving him thousands of dollars.
But, he wasn’t the only one. Another one of our clients couldn’t even get a hold of the original designer for simple upgrades and content editing. Out of the dozens of companies contacted, we were told that we were the only ones willing to take on the job at an affordable price.
It’s hard for us as business owners to see how others in this service industry seem to have forgotten to serve the public in a manner that is expected. As a consumer, I know that if I want a website built and am willing to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars, I want to hear back. Even if a company is too busy, we feel that a simple “Sorry, we are too busy and cannot take on your project at the moment. Perhaps in a month or so if you still require us!” shows the customer that you are polite, sincere, and on the ball. In fact, any acknowledgment would suffice, as ignoring a potential customer is extremely unprofessional and lacking in business etiquette. No one likes being ignored, especially someone who might give you money!
The worst case scenario is when a website is built and there is zero support afterwards. We have seen too many cases where a designer finishes the website and disappears off the face of the earth, leaving their customer stranded and forced to fork out more money to get another designer to help fix or update the site. Other cases involve the designer charging their customer ridiculous amounts for simple help and support. Next week, we’ll be providing a list of must-do’s prior to hiring a website designer.
As professional web designers and developers, the team at CryoDragon would never do anything like this. We always respond to business inquiries, and we enjoy helping our clients get exactly what they need. We also believe that each of our clients need to learn how to manage their site after project delivery so that if anything does happen down the road to either CryoDragon or their company, they can have peace of mind when it comes to owning and controlling their site.
