Well, it’s been a long time waiting, but we’ve finally had our first vacation out in the East!
Our vacation began in St. John’s, Newfoundland, where we spent three days in the capital. We started off our first day touring the downtown of St. John’s, where we strolled the street and enjoyed the view of multi-coloured buildings along the way.
On our second day, we went on the Iceberg Quest Tours to visit a tabular iceberg that had landed in Freshwater Bay. The sea was rough, but we still made it and took some awesome photos of both the iceberg and the cliffs off the coastline.
We were even able to make it to Cape Spear, the most easterly point of North America. On our third day, we trekked our way up Signal Hill and took some great photos of the landscape from up high.
Afterwards, we flew to Sydney, Nova Scotia to continue our East Coast adventure. As nature enthusiasts, we spent a lot of time on the road, taking photos of the scenic landscapes as well as the wildlife. We also visited multiple beaches along the coast of Cape Breton Island in Dominion and Glace Bay.
After a few days on Cape Breton Island, we drove up to Halifax and visited multiple attractions, from Citadel Hill to Peggy’s Cove.
Finally, we ended off our vacation with a few more days on Cape Breton Island to experience more of what it had to offer, including the Fortress of Louisbourg. During these days, we also found a few bald eagles nesting on a tree by the road, and another by the fishing wharf.
On our last day, we went on the Bird Island Boat Tours, where we took many more photos of birds on the islands on the Bras d’Or Lake. We saw atlantic puffins, razorbills, black guillemots, great black-backed gulls, herring gulls, black-legged kittiwakes, great and double-crested cormorants, great blue herons, and even Canada geese!
Overall, our East Coast adventure was a blast, and one that we would not hesitate to do again. Next stop: Montreal, Quebec for the 3rd Annual Meeting of the Biophysical Society of Canada, whose websites we designed!
