Fan Expo Canada: the largest popular sci-fi and comic convention located in Toronto, filled with everything a geek could ever want.
The CryoDragon team headed to Fan Expo Canada last weekend to immerse ourselves in endless creativity! As soon as we entered the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, we could see hundreds of individuals dressed up as their favourite characters from comic books, science fiction, horror, anime, and gaming industries.
Popular celebrities from Star Wars, Star Trek, Game of Thrones, Doctor Who, Marvel and DC shows (like Daredevil, Arrow, Flash) and more attended the event, including the legendary creator Stan Lee and artist Frank Miller. Where else could you find King Joffrey Baratheon, Luke Skywalker, Captain James T. Kirk and Doc Brown in the same room?
Spanning across multiple floors and buildings, Fan Expo was a huge event and has grown significantly over the years. Although we are thrilled that more individuals are attending the event, that means that the lineups get ridiculously long! Luckily, after many hours of waiting in lineups, we were able to get a signed autograph from Stan Lee and a photo with him at his last Canadian appearance, ever! As digital artists ourselves, it is an absolute honour to meet this legendary creator and the many other artists that were present at Fan Expo.
But, there were many other events and attractions at Fan Expo. This year marked the 50th anniversary of the Star Trek franchise, and the original cast (William Shatner, George Takei and Nichelle Nichols) greeted their fans on the official Star Trek cosplay day. Adam West and Burt Ward were also present (Batman and Robin respectively from the 1966 Batman movie and TV show), and a 1966 Batmobile was on display for fans to take pictures of with or without the stars of the show. A slew of new games were also demonstrated in the gaming corner, with a new Batman virtual reality game leading the pack.
Overall, an amazing experience and we highly recommend going next year if you haven’t been to Fan Expo before!
