So, it’s time to search for something online. What do you use? Google? Bing? Or another type of search engine? The top two contenders have always been Google and Bing. But which one is better? Is there a difference at all? Well, it’s time to find out!
Google is the most used search engine in the world and has been around since 1997. It is constantly improving with new smart results, advanced features, and integration with other Google products. We think it’s in a pretty good place right now, and it’s now become common to tell someone to “Google it”.
Bing is Microsoft’s search engine (previously known as Windows Live Search and MSN Search). It’s goal is to present you with results that are more suitable in a real-world context instead of just finding text on a page. In other words, it likes to be referred to as a “decision engine”.
When looking at the search itself, both Google and Bing look similar as they have similar functionalities. But does either one beat out the other in some categories? Why, yes they do! Bing provides 8 autocomplete results while Google provides 4, so for those who like using autocomplete, you get more options with Bing. Meanwhile, Google’s image search and shopping suggestions surpass Bing’s functionality in these areas. In fact, Google has reverse image search, which is an amazing feature that Bing does not have.
Regarding the search results themselves, which one is better? From our research, we have found that both Bing and Google hit the mark fairly well. Although each individual search provided a slight variation in results, we still were able to find what we were looking for. However, an interesting thing we noticed was that the longer your query and the more specific your search, the more accurate Google was.
In the end, we think that Bing is a great competitor against Google, but Google still wins it by a hair. Not to mention that the majority of the world has been so accustomed to Google nowadays. Google is still our favourite search engine, and although Bing’s video and autocomplete features are better, Google’s value in finding everything you need (no matter how big or small) is priceless.
